Last Big Hike of the Summer

We decided we would do one last big hike of the summer. We would hike into Tenquille lake which is past Pemberton Valley. The plan was to have a 3 1/2 hour hike - basically all up - into camp. We left early Saturday morning and we would drive all the way up to the trail entrance BUT when we drove the dirt roads to get there our guide book said that we would not need a 4 x 4 for the last turnoff road. We DEFINATELY needed a 4 x 4 so we had to park the car and add on an extra hour of hiking. No worries we had plenty of time before dark. It was the most beatiful hike. However it was sooooooo hot! It was about 38 C and for that first 2 hours we were basically in full afternoon sun (we started the hike at about 1:00) I was a little concerned that we wouldn't have enough water but it turned out all right. We were lucky to cross a few streams that we could dip our hot heads in to cool off. But the pack did start to get heavy after about 4 hours.
We hiked up up up through a lychen forest and over rock edges and meadows full of wild flowers.
But finally we turnes one last corner and saw the lake - ahh a great sign that we were almost able to get off of our feet. Ten minutes further and I had my boots off and dipped my feet into the lake. OHHH it was cold - but it sure made my sore feet feel nice.

It didn't take us too long to set up camp, since we had to carry all of our stuff we packed light! We picked a perfect spot just a little distance away from the lake.

But it was still close enough to the cabin that was built by the locals from Pemberton in 1902.

I can't believe people could actually pack all those tools etc to build a cabin. Most campers don't stay in the cabin itself - it isn't really all that clean... but regulars do store stuff inside, which we thought was rather cleaver.

So we spent the night and hiked back down the next day. On the way home we stopped to go bungee jumping!!!
